We can punch 2 inch, 3 inch, or 4 inch hood louvers. We’ll punch louvers directly in your hood or we’ll punch louvers in a panel that you install on a hood or body panel yourself. You can bring us the panel or, depending on what you’re wanting, we can make it for you to your specifications.
Our press can easily handle up to 18 gauge mild steel and .063 inch non-tempered aluminum with a throat depth 48 inches.
It’s important that the area where the louvers are to be punched be stripped down to clean bare metal (no rust). You can bring us your clean hood or we can strip it down before we punch it. We’ll also shoot a coat of primer on it after we’re done to keep surface rust from forming.
There can be no obstructions where the louvers are to be punched; any bracing must be removed. Again, you can bring us your hood with all the bracing removed, or we can remove it and weld it back in for you.
Depending on the size and layout of the louvers we use for a particular job, it’s best if the area that’s getting punched is as flat as can be.
With all of this in mind, the following is a guideline (prices subject to change) of how we price our louvers:
- Cost per punch ranges from $1.50 per louver to $2.50 per louver depending on size of part, number of louvers, and layout design; $50 minimum charge per job.
- Large parts are subject to an over-size charge which covers additional layout and handling time; up to $150 additional cost per part.
- Cost to layout and punch louvers in a vehicle hood generally ranges from $150 for smaller hoods up to $400 for larger hoods, assuming there is no paint to strip and no braces to remove. Size of hood and design layout (number of louvers) does effect price.
- Removing bracing and or stripping hood, if needed, can be done at additional cost; shop rate is $50 per hour.
Below is a very small sampling of some of the hood louver jobs we’ve done.
